Family Dinner - Garlic Herb French Bread
Despite our efforts to eat low carb (ish) it doesn't always work out. Sometimes you just need some bread especially for family dinner. Good old fashioned homemade bread. We have made bread before and since getting our KitchenAid stand mixer it has been easier and easier. But we also have some fresh herbs and we thought it would be nice to add fresh herbs into our bread and try it on the Traeger for additional flavor. See below for the recipe.
2 1/2-2 3/4 cups bread flour
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp basil
1 tsp oregano
1 tbsp parsley
1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 pkg Fleishmann's active dry yeast or 2 1/4 tsp
1 cup hot water
3 tbsp melted butter
1/4 tsp oregano
1/4 tsp basil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp parsley
Combine 2 cups flour with salt, sugar, thyme, basil, oregano, parsley, minced garlic and yeast.
Add hot water and beat until very well combined.
Beat in enough flour to make a soft but kneadable dough.
On a floured surface, knead for 3-5 minutes.
Place in a greased bowl.
Grease top of dough.
Cover with a towel and place in a warm place to let rise for about an hour or until the dough has doubled in size.
Place the dough in a greased 9"x 13" pan.
Place in a warm place to rise for about an hour.
Warm up your Traeger and set temp to 375 degrees.
Once your Traeger is at temp, place the bread on to cook for about 35 minutes or until golden brown.
Combine the melted butter, oregano, basil, garlic powder and parsley and brush that on the cooked bread.
Let rest for about 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
After we finished cooking the bread and spread on the butter we sprinkled a little kosher sea salt on the bread.
