Tuesday Tools - Knives
One of the most important tools in the kitchen is a good knife. I didn’t think that really expensive knives were that important – until we got a few. The first one we found at our local cooking store – Spoons N Spice. They have some really great sales, so we thought it was a great excuse to buy a fancy knife. We got the J.A. Henckels 8-Inch Chef’s Knife.
It was a great purchase. There is one downside to the “fancy knives”. You have to hand wash them all. Not a bad downside but definitely something to keep in mind if you are getting your first fancy knife. We used in for more than a year and it became the go to tool in our kitchen. David got the best gift for an amateur chef on his birthday about a year after our first knife purchase. He got the Hammer Stahl 3 Piece Bamboo Case Set, pictured above. This is such a great set because it is a
container and a cutting board. The set includes a 7”Asian cleaver, an 8” chef knife and a 3 ½” paring knife. The cutting board is the perfect size 15.5” x 10”.
The other thing I love about the cutting board is the juice rim. It makes cutting meat so nice and clean. We use the Asian cleaver mostly for herbs when cooking. The chef knife gets used for everything!
One of the things I love to use the paring knife to supreme citrus. My sister makes a beautiful citrus salad that requires a lot of this, and this knife is perfect for that. I would love to hear about the favorite knives you use in the kitchen. Let us know in the comments.
